En la época árabe pasó a llamarse "Bericlox" y era conocido como una rica alquería de la Vega de Granada, y fue en este municipio donde tuvo lugar la famosa batalla de la Higueruela, en la que la sangre de las tropas cristianas y árabes tiñó los arroyos de la zona tras la conquista de Granada, siendo ésta una victoria para las tropas católicas, y cuenta la leyenda que de allí proceden las higueras de la comarca.
Con la reconquista, la zona quedó despoblada y sólo se repobló gracias a los colonos llegados de Castellón y del norte de España. No fue hasta el siglo XIX cuando la región volvió a ser famosa por la calidad de sus extraordinarios vinos (eran criados de la casa real) y también por la producción de seda de calidad, herencia del pasado árabe de la zona.
En Peligros el arroz es una de sus excelencias culinarias, especialmente cuando se cocina con carnes de caza. También, conejo, perdiz o cabrito cocinados en diversos estilos. Los guisantes, los garbanzos y el trigo tampoco faltan en la mayoría de las recetas tradicionales.
